Dr. Chandra Henry - Medical Director of The Birth Place

Chandra A. Henry, M.D. is an Orlando native, a board-certified physician, healthcare visionary and social activist. She graduated from West Orange High School, and attended the prestigious Spelman College in Atlanta. After earning her Doctorate of Medicine from Meharry Medical in Tennessee, Dr. Henry completed internship and residency in OB/GYN at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. While there, she founded a non-profit organization, the Ruby-Ellis Foundation, as a vehicle to continue her original research.

She continued the work of her foundation with the call-in radio show, "You're On with Dr. Chan" and a televised talk show, "The Exam Room". The success of these shows made her a sought-after speaker on women's health issues. During this time, Dr. Henry adopted the name “Dr. Chan Alarice” for her public persona. Heartbeat of America, a grass-roots organization founded by actor and philanthropist William Shatner, recognized Dr. Henry and the Ruby-Ellis Foundation with the "Keeping America Strong" award for selfless community service. She has spoken for Warner-Chilcott and GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, as Distinguished Faculty Lecturer for Educational Testing Consultants, LLC, a company that recruits expert physicians from all fields to prepare family medicine physicians for their national medical board certification examination.

Dr. Henry was employed as an associate physician in private practice and at the Community Health Center in Leesburg Florida, and served as Maternal-Child department vice-chair at Leesburg Regional. She accepted a position as an OB Hospitalist in Jacksonville, Florida where she provided emergency medical care to unregistered patients with complicated obstetric or gynaecological issues.

The American Medical Association, National Medical Association, and the Association of Black Women Physicians recognize Dr. Henry as a member in good standing. She has received honors from the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists for outstanding clinical achievement.
